October Newsletter 2013
Dear
Parents:
Kindergarten
has completed their first month of school and what an exciting and busy
learning time this has been for them.
This
past month the kindergartens have spent a great deal of time adjusting to
classroom routines and to school rules.
A special thank you parents for reminding your child to unpack library
books and any teacher mail by their name cards in the mornings.
Our
October themes will be Thanksgiving, Leaves, Pumpkins and Halloween. All
curricular areas of study will be incorporated into activities related to the
above themes.
This
month the students will continue to practice printing their names using correct
letter size and formation. They will be studying the letters Mm, Xx, and Aa.
Stories, songs and motions will be used to help children learn the letters and
their sounds. Along with these letters the words mom, ox, map and ax will be
introduced and practiced. In math, the students will continue with the unit on
Exploring Numbers 1-5. They are just
moving into counting and creating sets for numbers 3, 4 and 5. Related vocabulary such as: more, fewer, as
many as, same number as, sets and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 have been introduced and
will continually be reinforced throughout the math program. Counting orally to
20 and recognizing amounts at a glance to 5 will also be a focus. Additionally,
the concept and symbols for fall, types of leaf names, the Halloween
celebration and Halloween safety will be
discussed.
Points
to Note:
1. Since the weather is so unpredictable these days, please
make sure your child has warm enough outdoor wear to accommodate the cooler
recess times.
- Sholastic Book Order Flyers
have been sent home this month, so if you wish to order books the due date
is October 16th .
3. The hot lunch this month is perogies and sausage on
Thursday, Oct. 24th for $4.00.
(If
possible, please bring a plate and fork from home.)
4. Please return library books on Day 1, so your child
may choose new books when they visit the school library.
5. To inform the bus driver if your child will not be
riding the bus.
6. Call the secretary or leave a message if your child
will not be attending school.
