February 2013 Newsletter
Dear Parents:
This month will be a short one
with the February break soon approaching.
Valentine’s Day will be a focus, as well as, finishing up all winter
activities.
We have done a number of crafts
relating to winter and The North. The
students had a fun time making their edible igloo and growing snow (crystal
garden). We are still building our milk
jug igloo, so please keep sending the milk jugs. The new letters of study this month
will be Bb, Gg, and Ff.
The class will continue drawing
objects and learning to recognize and sound out new words. In math the students
will be counting to 60, practise recognizing numbers 1-10, and printing numbers
1-5. The new unit is entitled: Exploring Numbers 6-10. Please see the attached
sheet for home ideas.
Being that report cards are
getting closer, I am including a list of some of the skills that will be
expected for Term 2:
. counting to 50
.
printing of last name. counting to 50

Please feel free to check and
reinforce any of these skills at home.
Also, I have started to do a
mid-term letter and sound recognition check. I will send home a note and letter
checklist if I see your child needs extra home support.
The classroom Valentine’s Party
is scheduled for Thursday, February14th (Day5). Please feel free to have your child send valentine cards for all the
students in the classroom as this is a big part of their enjoyment for the day.
