Kindergarten Room 6
December Newsletter 2012
Dear Parents:
The month of December is here and soon enough it will be Christmas time. The students’ excitement will escalate as the many fun-filled events unfold at P.J.Gillen School.
The Christmas concert date is set for Wednesday, December 19th, with an afternoon performance at 1:30 p.m. and an evening show at 6:30 p.m.. Make sure your child comes to the classroom at least 15 minutes before the evening show. The students may dress how they like for their performances on the stage. However, for our part in the Christmas concert we are asking each child to bring a regular sized flashlight (approx.6cm light diameter) with fresh batteries. Please put your name on the flashlight and send to school no later than Tuesday, November 11th.
The Christmas luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, December 20th starting at 11:00 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Students and staff are treated to a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings followed by some live entertainment. Now this happens to fall on a Non-Kindergarten Day, but we would like to invite all kindergarten children to partake in this event. If your child is interested in attending the turkey luncheon, just drop them off at the school at 11:00 and pick them up in the boot area at 1:00. Plates, cutlery and glasses will be provided for them. This is such a wonderful experience for all the students to be a part of at P.J. Gillen School. Hope to see them there!
Also, our classroom Christmas party is scheduled for Friday, December 21st. At this time we will be playing games, enjoying snacks and opening gifts. The students love participating in the classroom gift exchange. For the gift exchange, please purchase a gift anywhere from $7.00 to $ 10.00 dollars for the friend your child has picked below. Wrap the gift and make sure to mark who it is for and who it is from. Ensure that the gift be brought to school no later than Thursday, December 13th.

We are just finishing up with letter Tt activities, so just a reminder, if you were following the calendar activities with your child, Homework Calendar # 1 can be returned at any time for a small reward. This month we will be studying the letters of Ss and Rr, rote counting to 50 and starting a new unit in math on Patterning.
As the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child is dressed for outside play at recess times. Extra mitts and neck warmers or scarves are a good idea. The children are really enjoying crazy carpeting down the playground hills.
Thank you so much for coming out to parent-teacher interviews as I enjoyed meeting and talking with you again. If you have any questions or concerns that come up please don’t hesitate to call or drop by.
The next K-Day after the Christmas break will be on Friday, January 4th.
Take care and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
Merry Christmas,
Mrs. Kulcsar
